Published September 9, 2010
The NBA is opening its new Moscow office by naming EGOR BORISOV as NBA VP/Development for Russia and Eastern Europe, the latest move in the league’s global expansion effort. The Moscow office is the NBA’s first in Russia and follows Russian billionaire MIKHAIL PROKHOROV’s purchase of the Nets. The opening of the office was announced by NBA Deputy Commissioner & COO ADAM SILVER today in Moscow. “This is a great time for the NBA to expand its presence in Russia, especially given Mikhail Prokhorov’s commitment to further grow the sport in the country,” Silver said in a statement. “We are excited to open our first office and we welcome Egor Borisov, whose wealth of experience and tremendous enthusiasm for the game will help spur the continued growth of basketball in the region.” Prior to joining the NBA, Borisov was Managing Dir of NBC Universal in Russia. He has also worked in executive positions at Sun Interbrew Russia and Unilever Russia. He reports to NBA Europe Senior VP SOPHIE GOLDSCHMIDT. “We are very focused on improving our television distribution and online opportunities and from a grassroots effort we want to make the sport more accessible,” Goldschmidt said. The new Moscow office joins other NBA international league offices in London, Paris, Milan, Istanbul, Johannesburg and Madrid.
