The AFL hired STUART LAYNE as Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer. Before joining the AFL, Layne ran his own sports marketing agency called Seven 2 Sports Marketing. He previously has held marketing jobs with the Mariners and the Celtics. Layne joins the AFL as its first full-time, in-house marketing exec hire since the league relaunched earlier this year (John Lombardo, SportsBusiness Journal).
NETWORK NEWS: ESPN named Sony Pictures Television Exec VP/Europe Networks ROSS HAIR Managing Dir for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, replacing LYNNE FRANK. Hair will take over from Frank "later this year." It is "believed that" RUSSELL WOLFF, "who oversees ESPN's business outside the U.S.," will oversee the strategy of the U.K. channel until Hair joins ESPN. Frank, "who oversaw the launch of ESPN's UK channel after its opportunistic move to pick up the Premier League rights of the collapsed Setanta, announced earlier this year that she was to return to her native America for family reasons" (GUARDIAN, 9/8).

EXECS: Saucony appointed Converse VP/Global Marketing CHRIS LINDNER Senior VP/CMO (Saucony)….Keeneland VP HARVIE WILKINSON announced he will retire from the company at the end of January. The position will not be filled when Wilkinson leaves, and his duties will be transferred to CFO BILL THOMASON (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 9/8).
