MLB To Offer Japanese Fans Full-Game Replays On YouTube
Published August 31, 2010
YouTube will broadcast all MLB games "on its site in Japan next year, in what the company is calling the largest partnership for premium sports content in its history," according to Joseph Tartakoff of PAIDCONTENT.org. The games will go live in Japan "36 hours after they air." YouTube also is "putting up multiple highlight reels from every game from 2009 and 2010 -- and even putting up clips showing top plays made daily by Japanese-born" MLBers (PAIDCONTENT.org, 8/30). MEDIAPOST.com's Laurie Sullivan noted the MLB.JP YouTube channel "will support the library's best moments, short-form video such as Condensed Games, game replays, and FastCast, a quick recap of every game played on a given day" (MEDIAPOST.com, 8/30). The deal "also gives fans in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand and Russia access to highlight clips and archives on YouTube" (AP, 8/30).
