Quote of the Day
"I have been negotiating with him, and then you see him
in front of the players,
it's two different guys."
-- Chiefs LB and NFLPA Exec Committee member Mike Vrabel, on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (K.C. STAR, 8/29).
Time Warner Won't Miss Start Of NFL Season With New Deal
Football fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Disney and Time Warner Cable reportedly agree to the framework of a deal ensuring that TWC will not drop ESPN or ABC this week. The current carriage pact expires this Thursday, two days before the college football season kicks off in earnest and a week before the NFL gets underway. While it might take some time for the two sides to finalize a deal, ABC and ESPN will not go dark for TWC subscribers. ESPN3, a sticking point of the talks, reportedly will become available to TWC's broadband subscribers under terms of the new deal. Precise details of the carriage arrangement, most notably how much of a raise in price ESPN received, are unknown. But Disney and TWC do agree to remove all marketing targeting the dispute, which included ads in newspapers, radio and local TV.
