Quote of the Day

"It really goes back to when Chris (Webber) blew out his knee in 2003. That was the Titanic. We never recovered."

-- NBA Kings co-Owner Gavin Maloof, on the team's struggles in recent years to sell tickets (SACRAMENTO BEE, 7/24).

    McMurray (l), Ganassi
    Celebrate Brickyard Win

Chip Ganassi and Jamie McMurray know how to get it done in the big events, as McMurray wins yesterday’s Brickyard 400 to go along with his victory at the Daytona 500. Ganassi becomes the first owner to win Daytona, the Brickyard and the Indianapolis 500 in the same year. Yesterday’s race earns a 3.6 overnight rating on ESPN, flat with last year. The attendance at the track is not flat -- the estimated crowd of 140,000, while one of the biggest this year for a Cup race, is down 40,000 from last year. It also is half of the estimates for the Brickyard from just five years ago. The big news to come from Indianapolis, though, is that the ’11 Sprint Cup schedule could be markedly different from recent years. Homestead has hosted the season finale for 9 years, but that could be moved to the second race of the season. NASCAR Chair & CEO Brian France admits there will be “some changes” to the schedule, and that they could be known within a couple weeks.
