    N.Y. Media Remembers
    George Steinbrenner

George Steinbrenner leaves a legacy like no other team owner in sports. Bud Selig calls him both “controversial” and “a giant in the sport.” The Phillies’ Bill Giles said The Boss had “more of an impact on a baseball team than any other owner that lived.” The White Sox’ Jerry Reinsdorf said simply, “He did a lot of positive things, but did a lot of negative things, too.” Longtime N.Y. TIMES columnist Dave Anderson states Steinbrenner was "always willing to invest millions to make the Yankees the best team," but he "just didn't always understand that he had his faults." The Yankees "will remain in the Steinbrenner family for the foreseeable future" according to multiple reports, as one source said that the family's plan is to "retain the team, with Hal Steinbrenner in charge." Meanwhile, because Steinbrenner died in a year when there is no federal estate tax, he "potentially saved his heirs a 55% levy on his assets -- amounting to a tax bill of about" $600M.
