Quote of the Day
"This doesn't make him look real good in the eyes of old-school purist people at all and they're going to doubt what his real intention is."
-- Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan, on LeBron James' hour-long special in deciding which team he will sign with ("PTI," ESPN, 7/7).
LeBron Will Pick His Team Of Choice Tonight
The sports world can't stop talking about LeBron James broadcasting his long-awaited free agency decision tonight on ESPN, and reaction is not in The King's favor. Many believe ESPN has crossed the line by dedicating an hour to "The Decision," a partnership between the "world's most self-indulgent network and its most self-absorbed star." ESPN's Norby Williamson contends the net is maintaining journalistic credibility and has complete control over the LRMR-driven special. But for James, the announcement caps a free-agency period defined more by his ego than his talent. By planning an "hour-long mental masturbation about the wonder of LeBron," James has made himself "as easy to dislike as he'd made himself over several years easy to like." It's safe to say Maverick Carter might want a re-do.
