Final Horn Sounds For U.S. In 2-1 Loss To Ghana What will happen to interest in the World Cup? That's the question being asked after the U.S. is knocked out of the tournament Saturday. The loss to Ghana becomes the most-viewed men’s soccer match ever in the U.S. and earns a solid 8.2 fast national rating, numbers that shouldn’t be surprising. ESPN/ABC's World Cup numbers overall are running between 48-60% ahead of '06. And despite the loss, the U.S. performance is earning good reviews, as the team's run "was a smash hit," with the squad converting "millions of skeptics." But some sense a lost opportunity -- namely "the chance to expand soccer's popularity in the U.S." The AP's Ronald Blum wrote the World Cup "could have been so much more." Meanwhile, MLS Commissioner Don Garber says the league’s challenge is "about creating the connections between the world game and this domestic game at home."
