Sports Illustrated has named former Self magazine VP & Publisher KIM KELLEHER as its new VP/Global Sales, making her the first woman to hold the top advertising sales job in the magazine's nearly 56-year history. Kelleher achieved major gains in ad pages and revenue during her six years at Self, and in '08 was named Conde Nast's publisher of the year. "This is a really incredible opportunity," Kelleher said. Pro Sports Teams Over Last Decade
BLOOMBERG BUSINESSWEEK'S Aaron Kuriloff profiled Galatioto Sports Partners President SAL GALATIOTO, who over the last decade has "helped buy or sell 14 professional sports teams, making him a leader in this corner of the mergers and acquisitions world." Galatioto "helped the RICKETTS family buy" the Cubs, assisted in the sale of the Bobcats to MICHAEL JORDAN and recently was hired by CHRIS COHAN to help sell the Warriors. Galatioto said that his sports-team transactions "accounted for nearly 40 percent of the market's $10.1 billion in deals over the past 10 years." Galatioto, 58, "got involved in sports when he was in charge of the East Coast region for Société Générale and looking for ways to increase revenue." He "built a business lending money to professional teams," and then "asked the bank to let him set up a specialty practice within the bank to focus on sports." Shapiro: "After working a couple of jobs that didn't capture my passion (in business and analytics), I started pursuing a job in baseball." Shapiro said his favorite part of his job is that "it's about bringing people together and assembling a group of people that can perform efficiently at the top of their business both on and off the field."
