STEVE NEWMARK, 38, an attorney for the last 12 years with the Charlotte-based law firm Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, will be the new Senior VP/Business Operations for Roush Fenway Racing beginning this week. Newmark was part of the legal team that worked with the NCAA, CBS and Turner to complete their 14-year, $10.8B media deal last week in Charlotte. At Roush Fenway, Newmark will oversee finance, accounting, human resources, legal and licensing. In addition to working on the NCAA media deal, Newmark also was part of the legal team that assisted the SEC in its media negotiations with CBS and ESPN in '08. His work on the motorsports side has included numerous sponsorship and driver deals, as well as the Motorsports Authentics joint venture between ISC and SMI (Michael Smith, SportsBusiness Journal).
EXECS: Viacom has named MTV Senior VP/Strategic Development & Digital TV Networks Chris McCarthy to the board of the Alliance of Action Sports (Alli). McCarthy fills the vacancy on the board left by Jeff Yapp, who left MTV in August '09. As a board member, he will weigh in on the direction and operation of Alli, which manages the Dew Tour and other action sports properties. Alli is co-owned by Viacom and NBC (Tripp Mickle, SportsBusiness Journal)....The UFL promoted VP/Operations BILL PETERSON to COO. Peterson will oversee all facets of UFL business with overall responsibility for marketing, revenues, ticket sales, sponsorship, operations and PR (UFL)....Charlotte Collegiate Football named WILL PITTS Dir of Sales. Pitts' primary focus will be the '10 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship game and the Meineke Car Care Bowl at Bank of America Stadium (Raycom Sports)....ISP Sports named LORI TAYLOR Associate GM for the UCLA ISP Sports Network, JESSICA WINEMILLER Account Exec for the Blue Hens ISP Sports Network, MICHAEL WARREN Assistant GM for the Pitt ISP Sports Network, BJ PILLING Marketing Assistant for the Elon ISP Sports Network and DENISE DANFORTH Senior Account Exec for Gamecock Sports Properties. ISP's Georgia Sports Properties promoted Marketing Assistant HODGE PATTERSON to Account Exec and Account Exec ED MUNICHIELLO to Senior Account Exec (ISP Sports).
