Poll Shows 28% Of New Yorkers List Yankees As Favorite Team
Around 68% of adults in the state of New York regularly watch or listen to sports, talk about games with friends or read about sports in newspapers or on the Internet, according to data from the Siena College Research Institute's New York Sports Poll. The Yankees were named as the single favorite sports franchise by 28% of the 876 respondents, who were polled from March 22-26. That figure was around three times the support of the next-ranked New York franchise, the Mets. Another 10% described the Yankees as their second favorite team. Around 57% of New Yorkers attended a pro sports event during the past year. Attendance was highest at MLB games (35%), followed by minor league baseball (21%), NFL (20%), and NHL games (15%). The Super Bowl (35%) was named by the greatest number of residents as the single event that excites them, followed by the World Series (29%). Listed below are favorite teams among New York residents by gender, region of the state, age and income level (Siena Research Institute).
