  • Fans Enjoy MSG's First 3D Hockey Broadcast

The sports industry has been out front on 3D technology for some time now, and MSG Network's production of last night's Islanders-Rangers game offers further evidence that this technology might take the industry by storm. In addition to a packed house of 2,600 gathering to watch the production at the Garden, the game marks the first in-home 3D deployment of a live sporting event. The feed appears noticeably crisper and cleaner than recent sporting events in 3D, though there still is plenty of room for improvement. Wide-angle shots fail to offer much more than 2D viewing, but closer footage, especially in the corners, show a glimpse of 3D's vast possibilities. The debut is touted as a success, with "really, really good" footage that "truly does give you a view as if you had center-ice seats about 15 rows off the glass."
