Citi Signs As WPS Founding Partner, Gets Logo On Team Jerseys

Citi has signed on as WPS' second founding partner, and the financial company will receive advertising space on all team jerseys as part of its sponsorship. The Citi logo will appear on the backs of all team uniforms below the numbers as part of the first national jersey partner for the league. Citi joins Puma as the league's founding partners; Puma signed during WPS' inaugural season last year. The league and Citi in the coming weeks plan to announce the company's day-of-game and on-site activation plans. Though the league does not have any more national space available on jerseys, it is seeking additional founding partners to potentially sponsor the playoffs, as well as a presenting sponsor of the entire league. WPS Dir of Communications & Broadcast Relations Robert Penner said, "The league was looking to hit about three or four founding partners, and now this is our second, so we're getting close to that level of where we wanted to be." WPS has several national sponsors, including the U.S. Coast Guard's sponsorship of the All-Star Game and MedImmune's presenting sponsorship of the league's championship game last year. But the founding partnerships differ in that they give Citi and Puma the opportunity to activate leaguewide on-site at all games instead of single events.
