| Twackle.com Aiming To Create More Of A Full-Fledged Destination For Sports News |
Octagon Digital has relaunched its Twackle.com sports Twitter aggregation to include rankings of the most-shared news stories within Twackle and Twitter at large, with the firm aiming to create more of a full-fledged destination for sports news using social sharing. Twackle.com now strongly resembles social news site Digg.com, with story rankings available for specific sports and teams. "We want to be the hub for social sharing of sports content on the Internet," said Octagon Digital VP Jim DeLorenzo. "There's almost too much stuff out there, so a lot of people only go to a few sites regularly out of default. Our intent is to have the best stuff bubble up, wherever it comes from, and have it be easily accessible and sharable." To that end, Twackle.com has also added a tagline to the site name, "The Pulse Of Sports." The original Twitter aggregations, sortable by sport, team and player, remain. But Twackle.com has also added trending topics features called "Buzzing Sports Feeds" and "Top Sports Trends" that will seek to better highlight real-time spikes in Web activity that usually correlate to news involving a certain team, player or event. On the monetization front, display advertising will be supplemented by plans to create sponsored content links that will show up in the story streams.
