GOLD: JOHN FURLONG -- When the Olympics encountered choppy water early, the CEO of the Vancouver Games somehow kept it afloat. It could not have been easy, but the test of a true leader is how he leads when things are tough. Furlong showed he knows how to lead, and he helped give not only Vancouver but also Canada a memorable Games.

SILVER: USOC -- The organization has had a troubled run in recent years but it seems to have turned the corner under new CEO Scott Blackmun. Team USA had the greatest Winter Olympic medal haul in history, and the USOC's leadership began the healing process with the rest of the international Olympic world. | |

BRONZE: NBC -- The network delivered solid ratings throughout the 17 days of the Games -- even topping "American Idol" head-to-head on two nights -- and it overcame the inevitable challenges involving time and weather issues. Even then, its average primetime rating looks like it will come up just short of its advertiser guarantee of 14.0. | |

TIN: NHL -- Seriously, guys, heading into the final weekend of the Games was not the time to start complaining about how you are not getting a cut of the Olympic revenue. We realize you have put your season on hold, there is risk, yada, yada, yada. Bottom line: Arguments about money over nationalism do not win PR wars, no matter what the circumstances. |
