Turnstile Tracker: EPL Attendance Down 3.8%
Published February 23, 2010
The 20 clubs of the English Premier League (EPL) are averaging 34,109 fans per game this season, down 3.8% from the same period a year ago. No doubt hurting the league's average gate was the relegation of Newcastle, which ranked third in average attendance at this point last season with 47,821 fans per game. The three clubs that earned promotion for the current season -- Wolverhampton, Birmingham City and Burnley -- are all below the league's average attendance. Manchester United continues to lead all clubs at the gate with 74,800 fans per match, flat compared to the same period a year ago. Blackburn is seeing the league's biggest jump to date, up 7.3%. Manchester City also is seeing healthy gains, up 5.0%. Portsmouth is enduring the sharpest drop in attendance this season as the club struggles with its ownership situation and poor performance on the pitch. Below is club-by-club attendance for the EPL, with comparisons to the same period a year ago (THE DAILY).
