Postseason Run Has Helped Jets Sell PSLs For New Meadowlands Stadium

BLOOMBERG NEWS' Aaron Kuriloff reported the Jets' postseason run has "combined with an improving corporate economy to bolster sales of seat licenses" at the team's new Meadowlands stadium, which is slated to open next season. Jets Exec VP/Business Operations Matt Higgins said that sales of PSLs "increased in December and January as the Jets made the playoffs and the economy improved." He said that the Jets "have sold out licenses to the stadium's most expensive seats, which lie along the sidelines in the 'Coaches Club.'" Higgins said that the Jets also have "sold out the stadium's corners after cutting prices in October on some tickets to $195 from $400 and on the most-expensive 'Prime' seats to $395 from $500" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 1/11).

COMING OUT OF HIBERNATION: MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reported the Cubs yesterday introduced former MLBer Greg Maddux as an assistant to GM Jim Hendry. Maddux will "assist the Major and Minor League coaching staffs in Spring Training, help in the development of Minor Leaguers during the regular season and aid Hendry and the baseball operations department in talent evaluation" (MLB.com, 1/11). In Chicago, Phil Rogers notes Maddux has a "chance to expand that role -- either as a coach or an executive, maybe even a manager or a general manager -- in the years ahead." Maddux is "one of the smartest men to set foot on a diamond in the modern era" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 1/12).

FRONT OFFICE SHUFFLE: In Philadelphia, Brookover & McLane note although Eagles VP/Player Personnel Howie Roseman "remains the most likely candidate to replace" Tom Heckert as GM, coach Andy Reid yesterday said that an interview process "would take place before the team replaces Heckert," who yesterday was named Browns GM (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/12).
