Four Score: Favre's Vikings Jersey Continues Run As Top Seller

Vikings QB Brett Favre's No. 4 jersey remained NFLShop.com's top seller for the time period from April 1-January 3. Steelers S Troy Polamalu also retained his No. 2 spot in the jersey sales rankings, while Colts QB Peyton Manning, who ranked No. 11 in jersey sales in the April 1-October 29 period, replaced Bears QB Jay Cutler at No. 3. Manning and Saints QB Drew Brees, who jumped from No. 17 to No. 4, were the biggest risers as their teams chased undefeated seasons. Meanwhile, falling out of the top 10 were Cutler (now No. 13), Jets QB Mark Sanchez (No. 7 to No. 14) and Eagles QB Michael Vick (No. 10 to No. 18). The Steelers were No. 1 in jersey sales from April 1-January 3 despite failing to make the playoffs, followed by the Cowboys and Vikings (NFL).

JOINING THE PACK: In Green Bay, Tony Walter reported the Packers' "late-season success and playoff optimism has produced the expected uptick for the retail industry that counts on sales of Packers merchandise to boost its bottom line." Packers Dir of Retail Operations Kate Hogan: "We have definitely felt the impact from the economy, but it's absolutely better than a year ago." Walter noted the debate over Favre leaving the team "has moved another 12 months into the past," and the "result has been an improvement in sales of all Packers-related merchandise." Hogan: "Two things came together at the right time. The winning and the holidays." The Packers take an 11-5 record into Sunday's NFC Wild Card game against the Cardinals (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 1/7).
