Topps Signs Nationals P Stephen Strasburg To Exclusive Deal
Published December 23, 2009
Topps has signed Nationals P Stephen Strasburg to an exclusive multi-year agreement that grants the trading card company exclusive rights for autographed Strasburg cards and game-used memorabilia cards. Topps will offer a limited-edition line of autographed memorabilia items, and it will soon unveil card designs and products featuring Strasburg. His image also will be used on packaging and advertising (Topps). In DC, Tim Lemke noted this is the "first big endorsement deal announced by Topps since it became the exclusive trading card of both the majors and minors" earlier this month. It is also the "first endorsement for Strasburg" (WASHINGTONTIMES.com, 12/22). Also in DC, Chico Harlan wrote it is "pretty clear that Topps wanted to capitalize on the most hyped No. 1 draft pick in a generation" by signing Strasburg (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 12/22).
