Quote of the Day

"I’m not coaching. I’m going to stay with the team I’m on. The only team I’m going to coach is my 13-year-old son’s flag football team."

-- ESPN's Jon Gruden, reiterating his intent to return to the "MNF" broadcast booth next season ("Monday Night Countdown," ESPN, 12/21).

    Holmgren Accepts Job As
    New Browns President
The Browns are hoping that Mike Holmgren can finally right the ship in Cleveland, hiring the former Seahawks coach & GM as President with complete oversight over the team's football operations. For an organization now on its third leader in 12 months, Holmgren brings "instant credibility and leadership" to the beleaguered franchise. Holmgren calls working for the Browns "about as good a job situation as you could ask for," and he will have plenty on his plate when he assumes control in the coming weeks, perhaps none more important than deciding whether to hire a GM to work under him. Holmgren now has a "tremendous opportunity to reshape the Browns," whose loyal fan base is growing tired of the team's habitual losing. Meanwhile, Bruce Allen sees up close how much rebuilding may be in order in DC, as the Redskins’ listless 45-12 blowout on “MNF” is called one of the “most forgettable performances” in team history.
