    The AF1 Chicago Rush have hired former Bears Dir of Marketing KEN VALDISERRI as President. Valdiserri also worked for the White Sox from '80-83, and most recently served as President & CEO of the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. In addition, the Rush have named MIKE ALZAMORA VP/Business Operations. Alzamora spent nine years working for the original Rush team in the AFL, most recently as VP/Communications (Rush).

    MOVING ON: FOXSPORTS.com's Lee Spencer cited sources as saying that Richard Petty Motorsports President RICK RUSSELL has "parted ways" with the NASCAR team. Russell had been with Evernham Motorsports since its inception in '00. Sources indicated that MAX JONES, co-Owner & GM of Yates Racing, "will assume Russell's position" (FOXSPORTS.com, 12/12).

    EXECS: The Pirates have hired TRAVIS APPLE as Manager of Inside Sales. Apple most recently worked in sales for Atlanta Spirit. Also, the Pirates have hired Sunrise Sports & Entertainment's RAVEN JEMISON as Manager of Ticket Services & Retention (Pirates)....The ECHL has hired MOLLY MERRELL as Manager of Communications, Marketing & New Media (ECHL)....Learfield Sports has hired three Account Execs: BRETT COOPER for its Iowa State property; LOGAN CURTIS for its Univ. of Oklahoma property; and JON MURPHY for its Southern Illinois Univ. property (Learfield)....Dick's Sporting Goods has hired JEREMIAH D. ZIMMER as Community Marketing Manager for Chicago. Zimmer most recently was an Account Exec for ad agency 361 Experiential/Draftfcb, Chicago (THE DAILY).

    Dungy's Influence Growing
    During Post-Coaching Career
    In N.Y., Judy Battista profiled NBC NFL analyst TONY DUNGY, who has "transformed into an amalgam of minister to wayward footballers and commentator on the state of the game." Dungy is the "rare coach who may have more influence after leaving the sideline than he had on it." Battista noted Univ. of New Mexico football coach MIKE LOCKSLEY turned to Dungy for advice when Locksley "was suspended after what was said to be a physical altercation with an assistant" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/12).

    HELPING HAND: Cyclist LANCE ARMSTRONG today on his Livestrong.com Web site is introducing a new feature called MyPlate D, which was "developed for people who have type 2 diabetes to help them break food down to its nutritional components." Livestrong.com nutritional consultant ALYSE LEVINE, who helped develop MyPlate D, said that the site is "free and is the largest food and fitness database online" (USA TODAY, 12/14).

    TALKING BASEBALL: In N.Y., David Waldstein noted "about 90 female baseball employees" last week gathered in Indianapolis at the second annual Working Women in Baseball conference, held in conjunction with the Baseball Winter Meetings. Female baseball employees, "mostly from the minor leagues, attended the 90-minute seminar to exchange ideas, offer support and encouragement, and build a growing network of women in the sport." Topics at the conference, which "was the idea of" MiLB Assistant to the Marketing Dir/Sponsorship Development Heather Raburn, "included career and family, leadership qualities and workplace etiquette." Raburn: "It's a chance to talk to other women in the same position and find out how they are handling situations and hear their insights on different topics" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/13).

    HONORS & RECOGNITIONS: The ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER's Marcia Smith ranked Angels Owner ARTE MORENO No. 5 on her list of the Top 10 Sportsmen Of The Decade (OCREGISTER.com, 12/11)....Late VANOC Chair JACK POOLE was "awarded the Olympic Order" Wednesday at a meeting of the IOC Exec Board (VANCOUVER SUN, 12/12).

    NAMES: Heat Fs UDONIS HASLEM and DORELL WRIGHT said that their domestic partners "won't be part of developing the 'Basketball Wives' show set to be produced by SHAUNIE O'NEAL, the estranged wife" of Cavaliers C SHAQUILLE O'NEAL. The show was "set to air eight, 30-minute episodes in the spring with a cast that was to include" Haslem's girlfriend FAITH RAIN and Wright's girlfriend MIA. But Haslem said, "We changed our minds" (MIAMI HERALD, 12/14)....Pirates 2B AKINORI IWAMURA, who was traded to the team from the Rays, Sunday took out a full-page ad in the St. Petersburg Times "thanking Tampa Bay fans." Iwamura in the ad wrote, "I hope you'll remember me with good thoughts for my efforts on the field and even for my 'Rayhawk' haircut during our run to the World Series" (TAMPABAY.com, 12/13)....Jazz G DERON WILLIAMS yesterday held his third annual charity Christmas party at Fleming’s Steakhouse in Salt Lake City.     IN MEMORY: Bucks co-Founder WESLEY PAVALON died Saturday at the age of 76. Pavalon and the late MARVIN FISHMAN led a group of investors called Milwaukee Professional Sports & Services that was awarded an NBA franchise in ’68 (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 12/13).
