While most of the sports world continues the Tiger Woods watch, the MLBPA formally introduces Michael Weiner as its first new Exec Dir in 26 years. Weiner immediately steps into the public eye, touting the present condition of MLB as a league without a "crisis or a critical issue to deal with." With growing talk that baseball needs to revamp its financial structure -- including possibly amending the revenue-sharing plan -- he says the union needs to make sure MLB's basic agreements are "working properly." Weiner touts he has a "productive working relationship" with MLB, but with CBA negotiations looming he vows owners misjudging the union "will be met with the same surprise owners of the past met with when they underestimated the players' resolve." Meanwhile, with the revenue-sharing issue recently coming under increased scrutiny, the Pirates state they are reinvesting the funds they receive into the on-field product.
