WPS Considers Selling League Presenting Or Title Sponsorship
Published November 25, 2009
WPS Commissioner Tonya Antonucci said that the league is "selling a league presenting sponsorship and may be open to selling a league title sponsorship instead," according to Tripp Mickle of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. WPS hopes to find a sponsor "willing to pay a low-seven-figure fee for the right to be included in the clause 'WPS presented by ...'" The league is looking to "find a presenting partner by the start" of next season, but "hasn't set a firm timetable." SUM VP/Business Development Michael Gandler and Manager of Business Development Courtney Carter will lead the sales effort. Gilt Edge Soccer Marketing LLC Founder John Guppy noted that the WPS had "lower-than-expected sponsorship revenue in its inaugural year and selling a presenting sponsorship should allow it to boost its sponsorship revenue in 2010" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/23 issue).
