NOT GOING ANYWHERE FOR A WHILE: ESPN's Sean McDonough earlier this year re-signed with the net for four years. McDonough said, "I really like what I’m doing now. ... One of the things that I asked is that they spruce up the football package, which they’ve gone with better and better assignments.” McDonough used to broadcast Red Sox games and when asked if he missed covering baseball he said, “I don’t miss the 12-months-out-of-the-year grind. When I was doing the Red Sox games, for a long time I was doing 80-plus Red Sox games plus network football plus network basketball. ... I really enjoy the free time in the summer” (Albany TIMES UNION, 11/20).
CHARGED UP: CBS play-by-play announcer Dick Enberg, a San Diego resident, said that broadcasting several Chargers games and working with analyst Dan Fouts "have made this 'one of the most enjoyable seasons ever.'" In California, John Maffei notes Enberg "loves driving to games instead of getting on a plane," and he has "formed a great bond with Fouts, a new partner this season." Enberg: "Working with Dan has been magic. I can't remember a partner I've enjoyed more. … Dan gives me more opportunity to talk because Dan has done play-by-play. He sets up the promos and commercials for me. And he does it with body language -- a head nod or a raised finger" (NORTH COUNTY TIMES, 11/20).
MARV'S IN DA CLUB: In L.A., Diane Pucin notes when TNT NBA announcer Marv Albert arrived for a taping of ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Wednesday, there was a "sudden scuffle" when several members of fellow guest 50 Cent's entourage "seemed unfamiliar with Albert." Albert finally "made it to his waiting room, relatively unruffled but slightly puzzled." Albert: "Did you see that? I thought they were kidding, but then I realized they weren't" (L.A. TIMES, 11/20).
LEAVING BRISTOL: ESPN's Jack Arute confirmed that he "will not be returning" to the net in '10. Arute, who had worked on ESPN's racing and college football coverage, is also the primary pit reporter for Versus' Indy Car coverage (AUTORACING1.com, 11/19).
