MY MICHELLE: Golf Channel earned a 0.7 cable rating on November 15 for final-round tape-delayed coverage of the LPGA Lorena Ochoa Invitational, which Michelle Wie won for her first professional victory. The rating was up 60% from final-round coverage of the '08 event and marked the network's second-highest rated LPGA telecast ever (Golf Channel).
FIGHT CLUB: Spike drew a 1.9 cable rating and 2.9 million viewers for UFC 105 on November 14, ranking the event seventh out of the 34 major fight cards Spike has aired since '05. The rating was "lower than several episodes of 'The Ultimate Fighter' reality show this season with Kimbo Slice as the main draw" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 11/18).
CANADA REPORT: TSN earned 1.55 million viewers for CFL Eskimos-Stampeders Western Conference Semifinals and 1.36 million viewers for the Lions-Tiger-Cats Eastern Conference Semifinals on November 15, which ranked second and third, respectively, among weekend sports telecasts in Canada. The CBC ranked No. 1 for its "HNIC" November 14 coverage of Flames-Maple Leafs, drawing 1.808 million viewers (THESTAR.com, 11/18). The GLOBE & MAIL's Bruce Dowbiggin noted the "HNIC" early window is "consistently near the two million range while the late game checks in around 800,000 a week." TSN also "has posted record numbers this season" for NHL coverage, and it is a "similarly rosy picture" for Rogers Sportsnet (GLOBESPORTS.com, 11/15).
NOTES: TNT through eight NBA games this season was averaging 2.373 million viewers, up 36% over 1.745 million viewers for the same period last year (TNT)....ESPN2 drew 700,000 viewers for the November 13 MLS Galaxy-Dynamo Western Conference Final, marking the network's most-watched MLS telecast ever, surpassing the 658,000 viewers for Chivas USA-Galaxy in August '07 (ESPN).
