BCS Administrator Bill Hancock Named First-Ever Exec Dir
Published November 17, 2009
BCS Administrator Bill Hancock today was named the organization's first-ever Exec Dir, according to Dennis Dodd of CBSSPORTS.com. Hancock in the new role will "manage the daily operations of the BCS, interact with bowl organizations and TV rights holders and serve as the organization's primary spokesperson." The promotion "came out of a recommendation by the BCS commissioners last month," and Hancock "brings a wealth of experience to the new position." He became the first-ever NCAA Final Four Dir in '89, "a job he held 13 years," and in "recent years he has assisted the BCS in administration of the games and media inquiries." Dodd notes the creation of the Exec Dir role "relieves the BCS commissioners from the rotating" two-year terms as BCS Coordinator. The coordinator's job had "become somewhat of a conflict of interest with BCS commissioners representing the system that they, and some of their presidents, were philosophically against." ACC Commissioner and current BCS Coordinator John Swofford "will fulfill his two-year term through" January 7 (CBSSPORTS.com, 11/17).
