NBC To Aggregate Olympian Tweets, Facebook Updates On Web Site
Published November 13, 2009
One of the more unique applications featured on NBCOlympics.com during the '10 Vancouver Games will be an effort to aggregate all athlete tweets and Facebook status updates on NBC's Olympic Web site. Speaking at the SBJ/SBD FSA Sports Media & Technology Conference in N.Y., NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Senior VP/Digital Media Perkins Miller said the application will be called Olympic Pulse. "It will provide a rich, real-time dynamic that you haven't seen before." Interestingly, Miller said referral traffic from social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are "very low" compared to other services. "The social experience is driven by someone like Florio," Miller said, referring to ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio, who hosts entertaining chats on NBC's Web site during "SNF" games. Speaking with Microsoft Senior Technical Evangelist Jason Suess, Miller said the Web site will feature a huge amount of features from the Olympics. "There will be lots of wrecks and crashes at the Games, and we're going to exploit that," he said. "We want to take advantage of the chaos" (THE DAILY).
