    The Knight Commission two weeks ago pointed out that the majority of college presidents believe coaches’ salaries are too high, and we now are seeing just how rich those contracts are for football coaches. A front-page USA TODAY report shows that at least 25 FBS coaches are making $2M or more this season, more than double the amount from just two years ago. The average salary of $1.36M has risen an amazing 46% in just three years. This information comes as some schools are facing serious economic crises, once again calling into question the importance placed on collegiate athletics over that of the general school’s needs. But Cal AD Sandy Barbour said of coach Jeff Tedford and his $2.8M salary, “If we let him go because we’re not willing to pay market, we’ll pay a huge price."
