Nationals Employees Laid Off; Suns Let Go 28 Amid Slow Sales
Published November 9, 2009
The Nationals "recently laid off several people in the team's executive offices," according to sources cited by Tierney Plumb of the WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL. Two former employees "admitted to being laid off by the team." One former employee, "who worked as an account executive in the sales department, said he was let go last month." Another former employee "confirmed that he was terminated" two weeks ago in the corporate partnerships department. The team "would not confirm or deny any layoffs" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/6).
MAKING CUTS: In Phoenix, Craig Harris wrote slow ticket sales "can mean lost jobs, as shown this week when the Suns laid off 28 employees." Suns President & CEO Rick Welts said, "If revenues were higher, we would not be making these cuts. We have been pretty transparent about the economics of our business. The only surprise is we were able to put it off for as long as we did" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 11/7).
