PIGSKIN POWER: CBS Sports' first five broadcasts of its "SEC on CBS" college football package averaged a 3.8 rating, up 36% from a 2.8 last year. The 3.8 average marks the highest season-to-date rating for college football at this point in this season on CBS Sports in 10 years since a rating of 4.2 in '99 (CBS)....NFL Cardinals game broadcasts this season are averaging a 20.3 local rating in the Phoenix market through four games, up 42% from a 14.3 rating for the same period in '08, which represents the largest percentage increase in the NFL (Cardinals). KPHO-CBS earned an 18.7 local rating in Phoenix for last Sunday's Texans-Cardinals game. Meanwhile, KHOU-CBS earned a 17.0 local rating and 573,000 viewers in the Houston market for the game, marking the "most-watched show of the week on Houston TV" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/16).
STATE OF THE GAME: In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich writes MLB is "alive and well" in Canada, as three MLB Division Series games on Rogers Sportsnet last weekend each averaged "more than 500,000 viewers even though not all of the games were on all four channels." Friday's Twins-Yankees Game Two drew 638,000 viewers, Friday's Red Sox-Angels Game Two drew 587,000 viewers and Sunday's Yankees-Twins Game Three earned 620,500 viewers (THESTAR.com, 10/15).
NOTES: Golf Channel averaged a 1.3 cable rating for its inaugural Presidents Cup coverage last week. The network averaged 1.2 million viewers for Thursday's coverage and 1.4 million viewers on Friday. Golf Channel totaled the most-watched cable coverage in the history of the event (Golf Channel)....CSN Chicago earned a 2.7 local rating and 94,300 HHs for Wednesday's Oilers-Blackhawks game, marking the network's highest Blackhawks regular-season rating, surpassing a 2.13 local rating for Devils-Blackhawks in March (CSN)....Versus drew 419,000 viewers for last Saturday's WEC 43 (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/14).
