Limbaugh's Role As
Rams Suitor Draws Heat
One of the more interesting stories to emerge over the last few days has been the NFLPA’s concern over Rush Limbaugh's role in a group bidding to buy the Rams. Late last week a number of black players took a rare social stand saying they were opposed to Limbaugh being part of a bid group. Now, NFLPA Exec Dir DeMaurice Smith is being outspoken in addressing the issue, writing that “sport in America is at its best when it unifies” and “rejects discrimination and hatred.” After already hearing from a number of players, Smith "encouraged players to speak their mind” on Limbaugh's bid. In N.Y., Gary Myers writes Limbaugh is "so outspoken it would be inevitable he would say something to embarrass the NFL and upset his players." If this rare instance of social activism continues to attract a large enough group of athletes, it will clearly put the NFL in an awkward position of having to decide whether to approve a group with such a polarizing figure within its ownership.
