BACK TO THE ICE: The CBC averaged 2.5 million viewers for its NHL Opening Night coverage of Canadiens-Maple Leafs on October 1, and the net followed that up with 1.74 million viewers for the October 3 early-window "Hockey Night in Canada" coverage of Maple Leafs-Capitals, Canadiens-Sabres and Senators-Rangers. In Toronto, Chris Zelkovich wrote these are "audiences CBC hopes for during the playoffs" (THESTAR.com, 10/6)....NESN earned a 3.9 local rating in Boston for the October 3 Hurricanes-Bruins game, marking the network's highest-rated season-opening Bruins broadcast in the 25 years NESN has aired Bruins games. Hurricanes-Bruins surpassed the previous record, a 3.8 local rating from January '95 (BOSTON.com, 10/6).
NOTES: FSN Rocky Mountain earned a 10.1 local rating for last Saturday's Rockies-Dodgers season finale, marking the highest-rated Rockies single-game telecast ever on the net (FSN Rocky Mountain)....The Big Ten Network on October 3 had the most-watched college football games across the nine metered markets within the Big Ten footprint for the day. The network's Ohio State-Indiana game led all college football primetime games in the region (Big Ten Network).
