Thirer Has Resigned As AD At BU

Binghamton Univ. (BU) AD JOEL THIRER yesterday resigned from the position after the school in the past week "has been hit hard by the dismissal of six men's basketball players, including the arrest of its second-leading scorer" on felony counts of selling and possessing cocaine. Thirer will remain with the school in another capacity. BU Senior Associate AD JAMES NORRIS has been named interim AD while the school searches for a permanent replacement (Binghamton PRESS & SUN-BULLETIN, 10/1).

EXECS: Troon Golf Chair & CEO DANA GARMANY will step down as CEO at the end of the year after a "cancer scare earlier this year." Troon Golf President & COO HUD HINTON will become CEO on January 1, while Garmany will remain with the company as Chair (GOLF WORLD, 10/5 issue)....The Bruins have signed Assistant GM JIM BENNING to a multi-year extension. Benning was hired in '06 as Dir of Player Personnel, and he replaced JEFF GORTON as GM PETER CHIARELLI's top assistant in July '07 (BOSTON.com, 9/30)....The MLB Cardinals promoted RON WATERMON to Dir of PR & Civic Affairs, MELODY YOUNT to Manager of Media Relations & New Media, and JARED ODOM to Direct Sales Rep, and named CHRIS TUNNO Media Relations Specialist (Cardinals)....Due to "internal restructuring" at FS Florida and Sun Sports, the position of Media Relations Manager, currently held by DIANA HANFORD, has been eliminated. Hanford's last day will be tomorrow (THE DAILY)....The D-League L.A. D-Fenders named GINA GONSALVES Coordinator of Media & Community Relations and DUY PHAN Assistant for Business Operations & New Media (D-Fenders).
