GOLF Magazine Ranks Pine Valley (NJ) As Top Course In The World
Published September 10, 2009
GOLF Magazine recently released their biannual ranking of the Top 100 Courses in the world, and the Pine Valley course in New Jersey remains at the top. Among the top courses outside the U.S., the Old Course at St. Andrews ranks the highest at No. 4, down from No. 3 in '07. Only two courses that were originally designed after 1933 made the top 20 -- Sand Hills in Nebraska (1994) and Pacific Dunes in Oregon (2001). The chart below lists GOLF Magazine's top 20 courses in the world (GOLF, 10/'09 issue).

METHODOLOGY: GOLF Magazine used 100 voting members from 17 countries, which included major championship winners, Ryder Cup players, architects, amateur champions, photographers, journalists, historians and 12 "course connoisseurs," all of whom have played at least one entire edition of GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Courses in the World. For '09, the magazine used 475 candidate course, down from 408. Panelists could only vote for courses they've played. From the master list of 408 courses, the top 100 point-earners make up our Top 100 Courses in the World. Architects on the panel were not permitted to vote for their own original designs, nor could course owners vote for their own properties.
