Smith Joins O's As VP

The Orioles have hired former Red Sox Senior VP/Planning & Development JANET MARIE SMITH to the same position. Smith will oversee renovations at the Orioles' new Spring Training facility in Sarasota, Florida, as well as renovations at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Smith, who left the Red Sox last month after eight years, previously worked for the Orioles from '89-94 (Orioles).

HOCKEY: The NHL promoted Senior Officiating Manager TERRY GREGSON to Senior VP & Dir of Officiating, replacing STEPHEN WALKOM, who left the post to return as a referee. Gregson joined the NHL front office in '05 after a 25-year career as a referee (NHL.com, 9/8)....The ECHL named BRENT GARBUTT Manager of Hockey Operations (ECHL).

EXECS: Tennis Canada released seven employees yesterday as part of a restructuring effort, including VP/Corporate Partnerships GREG WOOD and Uniprix Stadium GM ROY HALPIN. The organization promoted CLAUDE SAVARD to replace Wood, and ALAIN BEAUPRE to replace Halpin (CP, 9/9)....The independent Atlantic League Newark Bears have hired former MLBer DWIGHT GOODEN as Senior VP (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 9/10)....SI.com named ROB KLIGMAN National Digital Dir. Most recently, Kligman was VP/Media Sales at social media company 8020 Media (THE DAILY)….Oregon-based Streetball.com has hired former Jordan Brand Marketing Dir GREG JOHNSON as CEO (Streetball)....LOCOG announced CHRIS HOLMES, a former Paralympic swimmer, as its Dir of Paralympic Integration (AROUNDTHERINGS.com, 9/9)….Sunice, a performance outerwear company, appointed HOWIE ELLIS Exec VP/Sales for the U.S. (Sunice)….Indiana Univ. announced they have eliminated the position of Associate AD and promoted Associate AD for Budget & Finance KEVIN CLARK to Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations.
