In Dallas, Jeff Mosier reports AT&T has secured the naming rights to a $354M performing arts center in Dallas, after the company previously was "rumored to be interested in naming rights" for Cowboys Stadium. AT&T spokesperson Sarah Andreani "declined to say how this deal would affect any potential naming rights negotiations with the Cowboys." The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram last year reported that AT&T was "interested in a deal with the Cowboys and cited confidential documents" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/15).
CUTTING BACK: In Indianapolis, Francesca Jarosz reports employees for the city's Capital Improvement Board (CIB) "could face layoffs or additional furloughs as the board looks for ways to cut costs." The move is "being considered as part of ongoing cost-cutting by the board," which faces a $3.5M deficit and a "bare-bones operational budget" of $63M in '10. That budget "does not include wiggle room for pending negotiations" with the Pacers, as the CIB has said that it "can no longer bear the entire $15[M] a year need to operate Conseco Fieldhouse." The CIB this year already has cut about $18M from its budget (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 9/15).

ONE MORE RUN: In California, Paul Sisson reports the California State Race Track Leasing Commission last month "pulled a request for proposals to run racing operations" at Del Mar Racetrack, "deciding instead to grant a one-year extension to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, which has managed the track for 40 years." The thoroughbred club's 20-year lease would have expired December 31 before the extension. The commission "has decided to wait until next year to consider proposals from other groups that may be interested in managing the racing season" at the track (NORTH COUNTY TIMES, 9/15).
KEYS TO THE ARENA: The PUGET SOUND BUSINESS JOURNAL's Greg Lamm reported Seattle-based Sync Sports & Entertainment Managing Partners Nate Silverman and Patrick Naranjo recently landed a deal to sell "advertising and luxury suites" at KeyArena. Sync will be "responsible for selling advertising at KeyArena as well as selling the arena's 55 suites for concerts, Seattle Storm and Seattle University basketball games and other events." Lamm noted there will be "about 100 events overall" this year at KeyArena (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/11).
