Published September 28, 2009
The Magic and city officials, pending contract negotiations, have jointly selected Daktronics to provide the scoreboard and display system for Amway Center, according to a source close to the negotiations. The committee responsible for choosing the vendor ranked Daktronics No. 1 among the five submissions to supply the center-hung video board, interior and exterior matrix displays, practice court scoreboard and other electronic signs at the $480M arena. The rankings in order of the committee's preference: Daktronics, TS Sports/Lighthouse, ANC Sports/Mitsubishi Electric, GKD and Technomedia Solutions. There is no set deadline for when a contract could be signed, the source said. If the committee and Daktronics fail to reach an agreement, project officials will start discussions with TS Sports/Lighthouse, No. 2 on the list. Daktronics has scoreboards in place at 15 NBA arenas, according to SportsBusiness Journal research. Amway Center is scheduled to open in '10.
