Cutler Tops List Of Best-Selling NFL Jerseys; Steelers Top Team
Published August 14, 2009
New Bears QB Jay Cutler leads all NFLers in jersey sales on NFLShop.com from April 1-August 7, vaulting 16 spots following his offseason trade to the Bears after his Broncos jersey ranked No. 17 at the end of the '08 regular season. Cutler is followed by Steelers S Troy Polamalu and QB Ben Roethlisberger at No. 2 and 3, respectively, as the Steelers players benefit from their win in Super Bowl XLIII in February. Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and QB Kurt Warner also see their Super Bowl appearance pay off, as they rank No. 14 and 21, respectively, after not appearing in the top 25 at the end of the '08 regular season. Jets QB Mark Sanchez is the highest-ranked rookie on the list at No. 5. Meanwhile, the Steelers led all NFL teams in merchandise sales on NFLShop.com for the period, climbing from a No. 3 ranking at the conclusion of the '08 regular season to supplant the Cowboys (NFL).

CUTLER-MANIA: USA TODAY's Jim Corbett in a sports section cover story reports "Cutler fever" at the Bears' training camp at Olivet Nazarene Univ. (ONU) in Bourbonnais, Illinois "has attracted Tiger Woods-sized galleries." ONU Dir of University Relations and Bears Training Camp Dir Gary Griffin said that the team "averaged 8,000 fans its first nine practices, double the daily turnout the last six years." Griffin: "Virginia McCaskey was here Aug. 5th, and I asked her what she thought of the crowd. She said, 'It's Cutler-mania.'" Cutler: "This whole Bears training camp experience has been eye-opening" (USA TODAY, 8/14).
