Golf, Rugby To Battle For Spot In '16 Olympics Golf and rugby are one step closer to becoming Olympic sports as the IOC Exec Board this morning recommends them for inclusion in the ’16 Summer Games. Golf’s bid has the support of a number of the sport’s stars, including Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia, and the PGA Tour’s Ty Votaw says the various golf tours around the globe will alter their schedules to accommodate the Olympics. Meanwhile, the five contenders not making the final round -- baseball, softball, squash, karate and roller sports -- will have to wait another four years before making another pitch to get in the Games.
