  •  Golf, Rugby To Battle For Spot In '16 Olympics

    Golf and rugby are one step closer to becoming Olympic sports as the IOC Exec Board this morning recommends them for inclusion in the ’16 Summer Games. A final decision will not be made until the full IOC assembly meets in Copenhagen in October, but both sides sound confident that they will be going for the gold in ’16. Golf’s bid has the support of a number of the sport’s stars, including Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia, and the PGA Tour’s Ty Votaw says the various golf tours around the globe will alter their schedules to accommodate the Olympics. Meanwhile, the five contenders not making the final round -- baseball, softball, squash, karate and roller sports -- will have to wait another four years before making another pitch to get in the Games.
