Turnstile Tracker: Smaller MLL Sees Average Attendance Increase

Major League Lacrosse (MLL) this season averaged 5,558 fans per game, the league's best figure since its inception in '01 and up 23.1% from '08. The league this season fielded only six teams, down from 10 last year after a number of clubs dissolved due to economic concerns. Compared to the six-team league that started MLL in '05, average attendance was up 30.7%. The Denver Outlaws led the league at the gate for the fourth consecutive season at 10,127 fans per game, but were off 6.7% from a year ago, and saw their lowest average since coming into the league in '06. The team did break its own single-game attendance record again with 21,952 fans at Invesco Field for a match against the Bayhawks on July 4. MLL also saw its first-ever Canadian franchise in the Toronto Nationals, who averaged 3,847 fans per game at BMO Field after taking over the roster of the now-defunct Rochester Rattlers.
