  • Balsillie Bid For Coyotes Takes A Hit Tuesday

Jim Balsillie is dealt a severe blow in his quest to purchase the Coyotes, as one of the team’s largest secured creditors throws its support behind Jerry Reinsdorf’s group. SOF Investments announces an agreement that calls for Reinsdorf's group to pay down a portion of the company’s debt and rollover the rest. The move marks a major shift for SOF, which previously had come to Balsillie’s defense, arguing his $212.5M bid was the only one that could satisfy the club’s creditors. Balsillie attorney Richard Rodier tries to remain positive after the hearing, but he concedes it is a “theoretical possibility” that the end could be near for his client. While the Coyotes ownership situation may be moving closer to a resolution, uncertainty continues to surround the Lightning.
