Turner Sports Developing iPhone App For PGA Championship

iPhone App Will Feature Live And Highlight
Video Of Breaking News, Leaderboards
Turner Sports, which produces PGA.com in partnership with the PGA of America, has developed an iPhone application for its upcoming coverage of the PGA Championship. The application, to cost $1.99 and sponsored by ING, will feature a variety of live and highlight video with DVR-type capabilities, scoring updates and leaderboards, breaking news, and other content. Utilizing the new iPhone 3.0 software update, the application will also include customizable push notifications in which users can select their favorite players and be updated on their individual progress, in part through a set of golf-related sound effects. “We’re looking to break some new ground in what can be done around a golf app, so these things like the DVR video and audio alerts, we think, push the envelope a bit,” said Turner Sports VP & GM for Sports Digital Matt Hong. The outlet is also planning an extensive social media-related effort for the tournament.
