Twitter Causing Teams To
Consider New RegulationsThe collective gasp that went out this morning while Twitter was down is indicative of how important the social networking has become for people in the sports industry. The popularity of the microblogging site is evident at NFL training camps, as it is forcing teams to address an issue that did not exist 12 months ago. While several franchises seem to welcome the new technology, others are clearly fighting the trend. The Dolphins are banning players, media and fans from using Twitter, and while Senior VP Harvey Greene admits the club is “not looking over everybody's shoulder,” there is a “concern about information flow.” That concern could be raised even higher if NBC implements the use of Twitter from field level during games this fall. Meanwhile, ESPN.com’s Rob King further explains the network’s policy on social media use.
