Turnstile Tracker: WNBA Sees 2% Increase In Average Attendance

The WNBA is averaging 8,017 fans per game through August 4, up 2.0% from the same date a year ago. Topping the league's average attendance are the Washington Mystics, whose home attendance is up 29.5% from a year ago. The L.A. Sparks are seeing a 22.6% increase at the gate, but have had only five games at home to date, with Staples Center needing time to set up and play host to X Games 15. The Sparks also got back reigning MVP F Candace Parker from maternity leave on July 5, and the team will now have the majority of its home games during the second half of the season. Franchises seeing double-digit drops in attendance are the Atlanta Dream (-15.5%), whose owner is now looking for investors, and the Connecticut Sun (-10.9%). The chart below lists team-by-team attendance for the WNBA through August 4, with comparisons to the same time period in '08 (THE DAILY).
