FOOT SUPPORT: In London, John Bingham reports Galaxy MF David Beckham will appear alongside California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new "advertising campaign to promote" the state. Beckham is among a "host of celebrities chosen to help attract visitors" to California, and the effort is "being viewed as a signal that the player plans to stay in America despite rumours of a possible permanent move" to AC Milan (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 8/3).
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Hannah Karp reported modeling agency Wilhelmina is "on the hunt to replace the seventh member of its women's golf team -- the Wilhelmina 7 -- by the end of the season." Wilhelmina Sports Dir Rodney Fetaya has been "scouting LPGA players" at the U.S. Women's Open and Women's British Open to find a golfer that will "fit in with the close-knit group." Fetaya said that he has the "list narrowed down to five players who seem to have personality and a sense of style" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/1).
BACKSTAGE ACCESS: Friday's episode of "Entertainment Tonight" featured backstage footage from the filming of DirecTV's new ads promoting its "Sunday Ticket" NFL package. Actors Charlie Sheen and LL Cool J star in the ads, and LL Cool J said, "I love football. I'm a fan, I can't lie." Sheen added, "It's always nice to promote a product you actually believe in, support and use." The ad starring LL Cool J starts airing today ("Entertainment Tonight," 7/31).
