MLS Average Attendance Down 5.5% Through All-Star Break

MLS attendance is down 5.5% through July 28 when compared to the same period in '08. The expansion Sounders FC continue to lead all clubs in average attendance with 30,204 fans per game at Qwest Field. Real Salt Lake is seeing gains during their first full season at Rio Tinto Stadium, as average attendance is up 10.1%. The attendance gap between the two clubs at The Home Depot Center is getting smaller, as Chivas USA is seeing double-digit growth, while their co-tenant, the Galaxy, are off 24.4% at the gate. Also seeing significant drops at the gate are the Earthquakes, Fire and D.C. United. The chart below lists MLS club-by-club attendance through July 28, with comparisons to the same period last season (THE DAILY).
