In St. Petersburg, Bill Varian reported Lansing (MI) Entertainment & Public Facilities Authority President & CEO ERIC HART is the "top pick of a search committee vetting candidates" for the Tampa Sports Authority (TSA) Exec Dir post. Hart is the "only candidate of five semifinalists" for the post "whom the committee is inviting in for face-to-face interviews." The committee "made the decision after conducting video interviews on Thursday." Other candidates included former Lightning Exec VP & COO SEAN HENRY and former Three Rivers Stadium GM and Pontiac Silverdome Deputy Dir RICHARD BJORKLUND. The post's responsibilities include running Raymond James Stadium (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 7/10).

Most Powerful Person In College Sports
TOP OF THE LIST: The ORLANDO SENTINEL concluded its week-long ranking of the most powerful people in college sports, naming ESPN/ABC Sports President George Bodenheimer as the "most powerful person in college sports." Bodenheimer "gave the ultimate go-ahead over the last 10 months to two major deals that will have wide-ranging implications for college sports" -- the net's 15-year deal with the SEC and its four-year, $500M deal to show the BCS beginning in '11. Bodenheimer said that the "one thing ESPN won't do is act as a catalyst for a playoff system in college football" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 7/11). NCAA President MYLES BRAND is No. 2 on the list, while CBS News and Sports President SEAN MCMANUS ranks third, SEC Commissioner MIKE SLIVE fourth, and IMG College Senior Corporate VP PAT BATTLE fifth (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 7/11).

TRANSITION YEAR: LSU AD JOE ALLEVA on July 1 marked his first anniversary at the school after spending 32 years in athletic administration at Duke, including 10 years as AD. LSU Senior Associate AD HERB VINCENT said Alleva in his first year has "really grasped the traditions of LSU and has worked hard to get to know people." Vincent: "He's a great listener, and because of that he's been able to become a part of the LSU community a lot faster." Alleva said of his first year, "I've been very fortunate to have a very good staff and a very experienced staff. It's really made the transition very easy for me" (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 7/12).
