Padres Will Serve Breakfast At Petco Park Before Sunday Games
Published July 10, 2009
The Padres beginning July 19 "will serve breakfast at Petco Park before the season's remaining Sunday home games," according to a front-page piece by Peter Rowe of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The Padres' "Breakfast at the Park" will allow fans to "walk onto the diamond for coffee, orange juice, rolls, muffins, fruit and breakfast bowls from 10:30 a.m. to noon." The idea came from Padres President & COO Tom Garfinkel, who noticed fans outside the ballpark "were going out to breakfast," while many fans inside the ballpark were not. Petco Park Exec Chef Eric Borgia "created new breakfast dishes, including a Southwest scramble and a bistro baguette egg sandwich -- prices pending." Also on the "a la carte menu: Bloody Marys, mimosas and vodka lemonades." Tables "will be set up in the Park at the Park, on the outfield's warning track and behind home plate." Diners "will need to buy a ticket for that day's game." Garfinkel "believes the Padres are the first major league club to offer breakfast on the field." Garfinkel: "We want to create a uniquely San Diego experience" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/10).
