Ueberroth Defends USOC Net After IOC Criticism This surely is not how the USOC planned it. Immediately after unveiling plans for their long-awaited network, the IOC sharply fires back, questioning the timing of the announcement, the use of the word "Olympics" and the need for a network altogether. It was a long day of back and forth between the two organizations, where relations have deteriorated to such a low point that one has to wonder whether the latest contentious spat puts Chicago's bid for the '16 Games at risk -- IOC member Richard Carrion simply says, "I don't see how this can help." However, the USOC claims the network, many years in the making, should surprise no one, and acting USOC CEO Stephanie Streeter says it should neither help nor hinder Chicago's chances. The organization is already starting its full-court press to gain support for the network, sending out dozens of quotes and talking points from supporters this morning. One thing is for certain -- a lot of questions, and hurdles, remain before the net takes off next year.
