WTA Senior VP
The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour promoted Andrew Walker to Senior VP/Marketing & Communications. He had been VP/Marketing & Communications. The move had to be approved by the BOD because the current CEO, Larry Scott, is leaving the Tour on June 30 to become the Pac-10 Commissioner. A replacement for Scott will not be named by that point, though one is expected by the U.S. Open, which starts at the end of August. A transition team of President Stacey Allaster and COO David Shoemaker will run the Tour in the interim. Allaster is the leading contender to take the top spot (Daniel Kaplan, SportsBusiness Journal).

COLLEGES: The Univ. of Akron (UA) yesterday named Exec Senior Associate AD HUNTER YURACHEK interim AD, filling the void left by MACK RHOADES, who left UA to take the same job at the Univ. of Houston. Yurachek will serve in the interim role until a permanent replacement for Rhoades is named (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 6/24)....NACDA has named Florida State AD RANDY SPETMAN as its President for the '09-10 school year. NACDA also named the following for the '09-10 term: Colgate AD DAVE ROACH as First VP; UCLA AD DAN GUERRERO as Second VP; Army AD KEVIN ANDERSON as Third VP; and Evangel Univ. AD DAVID STAIR as Secretary (NACDA)....The Big Ten Network has hired FSN Midwest Exec Producer MARK HULSEY as VP/Production & Exec Producer, effective July 13 (Big Ten Net).

EXECS: The California League has hired former Dodgers Consultant CHARLIE BLANEY as President for the '10 season, replacing JOE GAGLIARDI, who has been in the position since '81 (Riverside PRESS-ENTERPRISE, 6/24)....LOCOG has hired former Eurostar Head of Brand, Product & U.K. Marketing GREG NUGENT as interim Marketing Dir for the '12 London Games. Nugent has signed a six-month contract to replace AMANDA JENNINGS, who has gone on maternity leave (MARKETINGMAGAZINE.co.uk, 6/23)....The LPGA named MIKE VAJDA Dir of LPGA Sanctioned Events. He will work in the tournament business affairs group as a tournament representative and work on new tournament development. Most recently, Vajda was an account manager at Octagon working on The Home Depot’s sponsorship of ESPN’s College GameDay (Jon Show, SportsBusiness Journal)....Quick Hit Inc., a Massachusetts-based developer of online sports video games, has named former NFL VP Gene Goldberg and Nicholas Longano, former Massive President and current CEO & co-founder of Music Mogul Inc., to a newly formed board of advisors (Eric Fisher, SportsBusiness Journal).
